We invite all of the school principals from all over the world to participate in our announcement for providing a picture of human chain to celebrate International Year of Light. In order to make this plan work, students must rally in the yard of school to form the shape of “IYL 2015”. A picture of this formed shape must be captured by camera simultaneously. Obviously this photo must be taken from first floor or the roof of the school building.

Why International year of light? Extensive developments of optics and photonics have changed the human life. Growing revolution of medical imaging, causing to increases the accuracy in treatment and a huge descend in the financial costs of casualties. The internet, a symbol of communication via satellite performance and fiber optic, has converted the past mysterious world to the small village and made the human relationships more beautiful.
The increasing use of solar energy as the best and cleanest energy, promises happy future for our beautiful planet. These developments have convinced the erudite and scholarly scientists to focus and invest on swifter progress of optics can plummet the living costs of mankind life. Hence On 20 December 2013, the UN General Assembly 68th Session proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015). We are hoping it would be able to open the doors for better life of human being.
Target: the main purpose of this competition and totally the celebration of International Year of Light, is to introduce the importance of light and light-based technologies to students. Thus, as the first pattern, the following figure is suggested as a symbol of International Year of Light and stands for “International Year of Light 2015”.
Guidance: students should be arranged according to the plan below
- The plan with large scale, 177 students are needed.
- The plan with smaller scale, 116 students are needed.
For more convenience, the following guidelines are suggested:
- Each square represents one student who is placed with one hand distance from the other students around.
- Each green line is a pointer of one student that is placed with angle of 45 degree in the corner.
- According to the pattern, there is a vacancy of two students between two letters or numbers.
- Required number of students to run the big plan is 177 in total. I=21, Y=25, L=18, 2=29, 0=36, 1=19, 5= 29.
- Required number of students to run the small plan is 116 in total. I=13, Y=17, L=12, 2=19, 0=24, 1=12, 5= 19.
- By following the aesthetic principles, any other creative plan would be welcomed.
Advantage: all art works which have acceptable caliber, will be eligible to be sent to the UNESCO. Several exhibitions will be held to show your works in Iran and any other part of the world. In addition, pictures with higher caliber which could be printed in a large scale, will be printed on 75*100 banner and will be released in the public and reviewed by the visitors.
